PLANT CITY Two officials with the relatively new Plant City Economic Development Corp. gave an upbeat progress report at the Jan. 25 city commission meeting.
Economic development board chairman Randy Larson and president and chief executive officer Jake Austin said several businesses have either expanded or relocated to Plant City. Austin said he is contact with other businesses wishing to relocate, including two or three he believes may commit to move to Plant City in the near future.
The economic development corporation has a $395,000 annual budget funded by donors that include city government.
City Commissioner Mary Mathis said she has been impressed that the organization has attracted businesses that promise to employ hundreds of people at good wages.
“It’s good to see you are moving so fast and our money is well spent,” Commissioner Billy Keel said.
